NUST MISiS is the only Russian university entering the Times Higher Education: World’s Best Small Universities Ranking. The ranking represents the world`s best small 20 universities offering the wide range of subjects. NUST MISiS has ranked the 19th position in the ranking.
The universities presented in the ranking are selected by different parameters: the number of students, individual approach to students and focus of the universities on their strategic specialization areas. The fact that California Institute of Technology tops this ranking as well as the overall World University Ranking reveals that there is something very powerful about scale and focus. The Times Higher Education representatives are sure that the obtained results will help the students make more informed choices about perhaps the most important decision of their lives – who to trust with their university education.
«Small universities can potentially offer students a more intimate environment, with more support and attention from lecturers, and more of a chance for students to spend time with the star professors who in bigger universities may simply be too busy», commented Phil Baty, Editor of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
NUST MISiS is one of the leaders of technological education in Russia which is actively developing not only its traditional areas of specialization: metallurgy, mining and materials science, but it`s also strengthening its positions in the fields of biomaterials, nano and IT technologies. The maximum involvement of the students in the research activities is one of the key principles of NUST MISiS. The research teams of the university`s laboratories include graduate and postgraduate students, which give students additional competitive advantage – to learn from the leading professors.

The Times Higher Education: World`s Best Small Universities Ranking is the sixth international ranking which NUST MISiS has entered during its participation in the Competitiveness Enhancement Project of the Leading Russian Universities among the Global Research and Education Centers.
