The CWCA/ACCR and CWCR/RCCR are excited to invite proposals to the first Pilcrow Studio Writing Retreat for writing scholars, instructors, and tutors at a lovely AirBnB Cottage in Bluewater, Ontario on the shores of Lake Huron.
The Pilcrow Studio retreat offers an opportunity for focused writing in community with your writing centre colleagues from across the country.
Proposals should involve research projects intended for publication in the fields of writing centres or writing studies, with a view towards writing pedagogy.
Retreat Fees
Pilcrow Studio Writing Retreat fee: $185.00
CWCA/ACCR Membership fee: $35.00
Total fee: $220.00
Retreat fee includes 3-night’s stay, as well as breakfasts and lunches.
CWCA/ACCR Membership is required to participate in the retreat.
If you attended the CWCA/ACCR conference in Vancouver in May 2019, you are already a CWCA/ACCR member.

Submit a Proposal
To submit your proposal, please follow this two-step submission procedure:
- Complete the submission form, which asks you to provide your personal information as well as the title of your project. Access the submission form here or via this link: https://forms.gle/hotU6JK2pxVzt1PGA
- Submit a de-identified version of your proposal addressing Part 1 and Part 2 below as .docx file (MS Word) with your project title as the document title to cwcr.rccr@gmail.com.
Part 1: Describe your writing project
a) Project title (also the name of your submission document, see submission procedures below)
b) In 100-150 words, describe the research project including its type (monograph, article, digital project…) you’ll be workshopping at the retreat. Tell us why the retreat will be useful for you and this project.
c) In 75 words, provide details about the stage of writing and your intended publication venue(s).
d) Provide 4-6 keywords that capture the topic and disciplinary focus of the project.
e) Share your evolving project bibliography.
Part 2: Propose a guided writing session
a) Tell us how you propose to guide the group during a 50-minute session, and why this session will benefit writers. Guided writing sessions may involve:
- thinking writing during
- excursions,
- meditation,
- movement-based activities
- other?
- doing writing using techniques such as
- inkshedding
- writing prompts
- reflection
- expressive writing
- pomodoros
- goal setting
- other?
- other?
Participants with similar proposals for guided writing sessions may be asked to collaborate with each other.
