The main aspects of academic writing (or rhetoric and composition, as it is known in US universities) include focus, organization and mechanics. Managing methods and techniques in developing writing competences within these aspects help significantly alleviate writers’ burden of individual intellectual work.

Academic writing in Western universities is a field of study and a specific discipline aimed at developing writing skills, which are considered fundamental for higher education. The development of academic writing competences involves extended individual practice and therefore starts early and never ends.
