Stop Writing Like an Academic – Make Your Project Exciting

June 29, 2018
Scholars are having a hard time finding simple and free sources to read from and therefore less and less students are gaining the needed information in order to make their papers exciting for their readers and easy to follow. Here are some tips to help anyone in need make their project a little more exciting.

How blogging can help you loosen up

As a teacher, I learned the hard way that the best way to improve your writing is to keep writing. I always told my students that writing is one of those skills that you acquire by practicing and I always urged them to keep trying to find excuses to write. Studies have shown that text-messaging also plays an important role in improving your writing, as it helps you express your thoughts without too much thinking.

One of those ways is to start a blog. Whether you are studying physics or medicine or anything else really, you should definitely not focus on writing about things that solely revolve around your niche. The best way to evolve your writing and make all your projects a lot more exciting and easy to read is to start writing about things you enjoy.

Blogging can help you learn how to better connect with your audience, pick topics that they will enjoy and make even the hard-to-please people enjoy your content. These are just some key points that any academic project needs to have in order to better appeal to the audience and these are some things that your experience as a blogger can teach you.

Keep your target audience in mind

One of the most common problems I notice when it comes to posts is that the person writing them really didn’t have the reader in mind. When you write anything, the very first thing you should ask yourself is “Who am I writing this for?” This is the number one thing that will help you get a better understanding of the tone as well as the vocabulary you are supposed to use in this particular text.

For example, when you’re writing for a younger audience, you will want to use vocabulary that is a lot easier to understand and that is closer to their generation’s words. On top of that, you will need to be able to write on a topic that is also interesting for them to read and that really sparks their interest.

All in all, the understood your paper is to the reader, the more likely they are to keep reading it. This is why you should always keep your audience and its needs in mind, in order to make sure that the outcome you produce is suitable.

Use stories to make the paper easier to read

It is quite common to see texts which are rather blunt and boring. To a great extent this happens because the subject of the project is simply too difficult for the readers to understand, especially if they are unfamiliar with it.

The best way to make a paper easier to read is to create a fictional scenario where you will be able to include and explain all the hard to understand terms that some of the reads might find boring or uninteresting. Most students actually find this step difficult at first and they believe that the requirements to academic writing are such that they feel like they need help and often start going through academic writing services reviews, when in fact there are plenty of tricks like this which can help them out.

This will allow you to create a project that will appeal to everyone as no matter what their expertise is they will be able to understand it. Stories can make your paper a lot more exciting and entertaining without degrading your paper’s authority.

Don’t go overboard with the technical vocabulary

One of the mistakes many students and even professional writers make, is not knowing when to stop with the usage of technical vocabulary. Most people think that the more technical terms they include in a paper, the more knowledgeable they will appear. In reality, this is not always the case, especially when it comes to academic papers, as they are available for everyone to read and often end up not making much sense.

You need to keep in mind that technical terms are beneficial only when they are truly needed. For example, if you want to explain a medical condition, it is only proper that you use its actual name to do so. Other than that, you will need to make everything else easier to understand by giving a simpler explanation which will not make your readers feel like they can’t keep up with your train of thought.

It is important that through the way that you write, you can not only show that you know exactly what you’re writing about but that you can also make your reader’s understand. Studies have actually shown that students who work with self-regulated learning strategies and do their own research on the topics they discuss, also produce the best results when it comes to writing their academic papers.

A paper which is impossible to understand by people who are not part of your niche, is simply not exciting or appealing and writing like an academic will not give you an advantage.

Making your projects available for everyone

Keeping the text easy to understand is the number one thing that will help your dissertation reach out to more people and be actually interesting and educational to read. There are many ways in which you can start learning how you should approach your audience and their needs but the number one thing that can help you improve your writing is writing.

Keep your audience in mind when you write and make sure that you don’t include all of the technical vocabulary you know just so you appear knowledgeable. Simplicity is key and continuously writing like an academic will make your paper monotonous and difficult to keep up with.
